Put some soul in your summer

The first Friday in August, GlitterGuts.com and The Time Traveler’s Ball present THE BLACK AND WHITE SOUL PARTY.
It’s going down at the brand new Chicago Urban Art Society, a fantastic old warehouse space that’s been converted into a huge gallery at Cermak and Halsted, and I’m excited to say that it’s an 18-and-over event. This is going to be one of the only 18+ soul parties you’re going to find at a legal venue on the South Side and it’ll hopefully be the first of many.
The event is going to feature a live set by The Dirty Diamonds, whose music is a blend of classic girl group soul and loft party punk and electro. Check out their website for a free download of their new EP Monster Ballads.
In addition to The Dirty Diamonds, there will be sets from
MADDJAZZ
Maddjazz is a member of the Ghetto Division DJ collective, who’ve been making a name for themselves with mixtapes for Mad Decent and XLR8R and their now-infamous South Side Shakedown parties, where they tried to bring the intensity and craziness of a South Side rave into a North Side music venue and…well…succeeded
BLACK AUTOMATIC
Black Automatic consists of DJs Adam Black and Mr. Automatic, who host two very seemingly incongruent nights. The last Friday of every month they host Front 312 at Neo, which celebrates the two sounds Chicago revolutionized in the ’80s: house and industrial. Their other event, Bella Noche at Beauty Bar, is a mod night which is much more skinny ties and scotch than corsets and chains.
BRITISH KNIGHTS
In addition to his regular parties Lets Get Weird (a thrash-meets-dance night at Evil Olive) and K.D.M. (short for “Kids. Dance. Move.”, which brings a Wicker Park vibe to River West’s Rino), and production work for a series of rock, pop, and hiphop acts, British Knights has been a regular feature at Flosstradamus’ Oldies Night parties at The Burlington.
REBEL! REBEL
Rebel! Rebel! has been on the scene for a few years now, hosting nights like Soulstice at Liar’s Club and Innjoy, where she takes a purist’s approach and plays nothing but original ’45s.
We’ll be on-hand for a photobooth (of course) and, like all our parties, we want you to get dressed up. The theme is simple for this one:
The 1960’s
It could be the real thing or a Happy Days/Mad Men knockoff but we want to see you in your sixties finest.
$5 in 60s fashion
$5 in mod gear
$10 off the street
18 to enter, 21 to drink

ALSO
At the end of the month, we’re teaming up with our friends at the Chicago Underground Library for Stacks!, a benefit party featuring sets from DJs John Ciba (East of Edens Soul Express), Lady J (The Merge), MLE (The Merge) and JJ (Windy City Soul Club).
It should be a great party for a more-than-worthy cause (check the links if you’re unfamiliar with the Chicago Underground Library and what they do) and you should be there. At both, really. Woot.
