Are you a musician? Do you drive a shitty van that obviously belongs to a musician? Here’s a pro-tip: no matter how much it sucks, no matter how tired you are, no matter how hard people are trying to get you to come to the afterparty first… bring your equipment inside! Your home, the practice space, wherever! I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard about bands and DJs having all their equipment stolen, and as much fun as it is bringing the whole community of friends and fans and family together for a benefit, we don’t need to keep doing this!

Our good friend Leo from Perfect Kiss and Broken Disco 1980 (and I forget whether or not he plays in Glass Lux right now because he’s so so busy) had this happen a month back so the homies came together for an event at Logan Square’s HQ loft gallery to help him replace his gear. There was music from Trancid, Eddie Riot, Mr. Bobby, Negative Zeta, DJ Demchuk, and Compact Disco. Underaged kids tried to namedrop and beg their way in and when the gallery booted em, they called the cops, who came in seven dudes deep. In other words, a good old fashion loft jam.
