GlitterGuts Remixed: Meaghan Garvey
Posted on November 6th, 2011 by admin
GlitterGuts Remixed is an ongoing project where we invite some of our favorite artists to reinterpret some of our favorite portraits and make them their own.
For the first edition, we enlist the help of Meaghan Garvey, aka Moneyworth. Outside of being one of our favorite voices on twitter, Meaghan is a brilliant artist and dj, whose visual work tends to mix abstract geometrical images, hand-drawn photorealistic portraiture, and a celebration of modern rap and r&B, in all of it’s ridiculousness, sincerity, commercialism, consumerism, and sexuality.Forgive me if I’m using any of these terms incorrectly (‘abstract’, in particular, seems like a problematic word to use, as it means something specific and is often used and overused by laymen like me to mean a lot more). I wasted a lot of time in artschool and my grasp of a lot of concepts still boils down to I knows what I likes!
For GlitterGuts remixed, we gave Meaghan some images from the beginning of summer 2011. Some of the ones she chose came from Kids These Days’ record release party at the Metro, the Porn and Chicken Dance Party at evilOlive, T&A Tuesdays at Exit, and Tell All Your Friends at Risque Cafe.
